Tuscany

Tuscany is probably the best known region in Italy when wine is considered. It is the home of Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.Tuscany was the granary for Caesars legions, the birthplace of the renaissance, and the destination of many English writers. Tuscan winemakers have lead a renasissance in Italian winemaking during the last few decades, the old rules had to change to accommodate their better wines. Tuscany also produces Olive Oil that many consider the world's best.

92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate May 2011 The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Pietranera is a beautiful, mid-weight wine graced with exquisite aromatics, well-articulated fruit and a long, polished finish. This remains a medium-bodied, focused style of Brunello that shows the more feminine side of Sangiovese. Saline notes frame the focused, energetic finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. —AG 92 points, Wine Spectator October 2011 Black cherry, blackberry and violet flavors are matched to a dense profile. Firm and fresh, with grainy tannins carrying the finish. There's ample sweet fruit, so be patient. Best from 2014 through 2028. 4,000 cases made. –BS Learn More
