100% Schioppettino grapes
Friuli Colli Orientali, Italy
The grape is Schioppettino - a difficult grape that was nearly lost to extinction in the late 19th century when growers began replacing this grape with more widely known (and lucrative) varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, the Visintini family only bottles this wine once every decade or so due to its challenging nature. Expect plush black fruit, plums, violets, and prominent notes of black pepper. Pairs nicely with Italian sausage and fennel pizza.
