Barbaresco Riserva 2018 “Basarin” — Punset
This is a serious, traditional Barbaresco from Neive in Piedmont, made from 100% Nebbiolo. The grapes come from the prestigious Basarin MGA, and Punset farms its vineyards organically and biodynamically.
The 2018 vintage is already showing attractive maturity while retaining the classic Nebbiolo combination of perfume, acidity and tannin. Wine Enthusiast rated the 2018 Basarin Riserva 93 points, describing it as refined, elegant and layered.
Aromas: cranberry, red currant, cherry, rose, blood orange and delicate spice
Palate: elegant red berries with savory depth, chocolate and spice
Complexity: floral, earthy and lightly balsamic, with hints of leather and sandalwood
Structure: high natural acidity with fine, persistent tannins
Finish: long, savory and beautifully balanced
Alcohol: 14% ABV Dry.
Punset uses a very traditional approach: indigenous-yeast fermentation, extended maceration of four weeks or more, followed by at least 24 months in large Slavonian oak.
This is an excellent match for truffle dishes, braised beef, osso buco, lamb, wild game, mushroom risotto, tajarin with truffles and aged Italian cheeses. Nebbiolo's acidity and tannins are particularly well suited to rich foods.
