SuperTuscans Valicaia 2018, 93 Pts JS
Chianti Gelso 2020, 90 Pts JS
Chianti Gelso Riserva 2020, 90 Pts JS
Heritage Terroir
Valacchi comes from the Chianti hills in Barberino‑Tavarnelle, Tuscany. The vineyard soils are medium textured, alkaline, with classic Chianti climate and altitude (~250‑300m).
The family has invested in both traditional and modern viticulture winemaking, which gives these wines both authenticity and polish.
Variety in styles, one estate
You get three distinct wines, two bottles each (6 bottles total):
Valicaia — the Super Tuscan blend (Sangiovese + Merlot + Cabernet), giving richness, jammy dark fruit, oak nuance, long finish.
Chianti Gelso — more traditional, focused on Sangiovese with a bit of Cabernet; lively violet/cherry aromatics, good acidity and more moderate oak.
Chianti Gelso Riserva — the elevated version: more concentration, longer aging, deeper texture, intense fruit + toasty oak + firmer tannins.;
Food pairing and versatility
These wines can suit different meals: lighter Chianti Gelso with tomato‑based dishes, roast chicken, pastas; Riserva with game, braised meats; Valicaia with richer fare, steak, aged cheeses.
They cover a nice spectrum: from fresh aromatic to bold structured. That makes the pack great both for everyday drinking and special dinners.
Potential for aging
The Riserva, in particular, shows structure (fruit + oak + tannin) that suggests it can evolve with cellaring for 5‑10 years (or more depending on vintage). Valicaia also has strength to benefit from aging. This means not all bottles must be drunk immediately.
